Lance Shepherd and Adam Chase are students at New Atlantis University attending their school’s first-ever science fair. Unbeknownst to them, their combined fields of study, Lance in engineering and Adam in biotechnology, are going to be showcased in a way that they never thought possible.
Shortly after the President of NAU, Robert Knight, and renowned businessman, Bartholomew Midas, introduce the various students and their works, the event is disrupted suddenly by a violent takeover by the Ouroboros. This terrorist cult is led by a ruthless individual named John Striker who threatens the entire faculty that unless they cooperate violence is imminent. Although their true intentions are unclear, the threat is still very real. Lance and Adam are both compelled to do something knowing they can’t stand idly by as all these lives are in danger. Using some clever ingenuity and surprising fighting capabilities from Lance they are both able to subdue the terrorists and take down John Striker.
Later that evening, Lance and Adam discuss what happened earlier that day, making the decision to take matters into their own hands to help stop the increasing crime wave that is taking over their home of New Atlantis.
Several months after Lance and Adam made the pact to become vigilantes, they are moving towards becoming a solid unit through rigorous training. They are now working almost nightly to take down any criminal activity they come across while also trying to stay awake enough to keep up with their day-to-day activities.
On one of their patrols, they happen to find members of Ouroboros attempting to steal a program called a “Skeleton Key” to free their imprisoned boss, Striker. After an eventful evening of evading traps and taking down some high members of the cult, Lance and Adam are able to retrieve the “Skeleton Key”, copy it, and leave it behind for the authorities to recover. Now that they have a clue as to part of Ouroboros' plan, the boys seek to find out more about where they are and what their endgame is.
However, that is put on the back burner when one night their skills are put to the test: their friend Noel is cornered by a similitude of the three-headed dog, Cerberus! Just as the boys can save Noel from the misshapen beast and kill it, they face another beast, a minotaur! With teamwork, the heroes are able to kill the minotaur as well and acquire a sample of its “blood” for analysis before its body explodes into a mist.
Confused as to why they just fought poor copycats of mythological creatures, the boys are starting to realize something much bigger and dangerous is afoot.
